What counts as a scan

Only scans with a validated successful result count towards your included scans.

What is not charged

A file in which no machine readable zone is found is not charged. A result that fails validation is not charged.

What happens at the limit

A request refused because its scan allowance is exhausted receives status 429 and the code quota_exhausted. It is not sent to the extraction engine and does not use an included scan.

Common questions

Does a failed check digit cost a scan?

No. A result that fails validation does not count towards your included scans.

Do unused scans move to the next month?

No. The included scans of a paid plan start again at the beginning of each calendar month. The scans of the free trial are given once and do not come back.

What happens when the included scans are used?

New scans are refused when the allowance is exhausted. Paid monthly allowances renew at the start of the next calendar month while the subscription remains active. The free trial allowance does not renew. An available plan upgrade may provide additional scans.

Which documents are supported?

Supported formats include passports, ID cards and visas with a machine readable zone following the ICAO 9303 document standard. A supported format does not guarantee a successful reading.

Where are documents processed?

We process documents on dedicated servers in Germany, hosted by Hetzner. Results are returned to your application.

Does billing data contain document data?

No. Document content and extracted fields are not added to our application records or logs.
