IDPARSE

About IDParse

IDParse is an API that reads the machine readable zone (MRZ) of passports, ID cards and visas from a photo or a PDF, and returns the fields as JSON.

The MRZ is the block of two or three lines of letters, digits and "<" signs at the bottom of the document. IDParse is for teams that onboard customers or register guests and do not want to type document data by hand.

What we do not keep

Uploaded documents and extracted fields are not added to our account records or application logs. Processing can create temporary files, which the software is designed to remove during cleanup.

About each request we keep billing metadata, for example the items listed below, and never the document or the data read from it. What we keep about your account is described in the privacy policy.

What we never keep

  • The document image or PDF
  • Names, numbers, dates, or any other extracted field
  • File names
  • Document data in logs or error reports
  • Documents or extracted fields for software training

Examples of request information we keep

  • The number of requests
  • The time of each request
  • The processing duration
  • The outcome code (for example "success" or "no MRZ found")
  • The file size

How the result is checked

The ICAO 9303 standard puts check digits into the MRZ. IDParse calculates every check digit again. The response says which check digits matched. These checks help detect reading errors but do not establish that every field is correct.

IDParse does not claim to be right every time. A field without a check digit of its own, such as the name, comes back without a validity flag.

Supported MRZ formats

  • TD3: passports
  • TD1: ID cards
  • TD2: older ID cards and residence permits
  • MRV-A and MRV-B: visas
